UniFi is rethinking IT with industry-leading products for enterprise networking, security, and more unified in an incredible software interface.
Ubiquiti offers intuitive setup and management for its products, especially within the UniFi ecosystem, primarily through its mobile apps and web interface, allowing users to deploy and control a range of networking and security devices from a single dashboard. Key components like the UniFi Network Controller and UniFi OS Server centralize management for network, video surveillance, access control, and more, simplifying configuration and monitoring through wizards and guided processes for a seamless user experience.
How Ubiquiti Products Deliver Intuitive Setup and Management
Centralized Control:
A UniFi Cloud Gateway is a single device from Ubiquiti that acts as a network router, firewall, and includes the built-in UniFi Network application software to manage your entire network stack locally. Unlike standard UniFi gateways, Cloud Gateways are self-contained and do not require a separate Cloud Key or external controller for their basic network management functions. They offer features like deep packet inspection, intrusion prevention (IDS/IPS), and application-aware firewalls for advanced network security and control.
In essence, a UniFi Cloud Gateway is an all-in-one UniFi device for networking and network management, simplifying setup and providing powerful local and cloud-based control over your entire UniFi network.
Mobile-First Setup:
For many UniFi products, the initial setup is completed by downloading the UniFi mobile app (for iOS or Android), connecting to the console via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and following the on-screen setup wizard.
Web Interface:
Users can also access a web-based management interface (via unifi.ui.com) to configure devices and view status updates, with the interface designed to provide easy navigation and control over the network.
Product Integration:
The UniFi ecosystem allows for integrated management of different device types—like networking and video—from a single unified interface, providing a consistent and intuitive experience for managing various aspects of a building or business.
Self-Hosted & Cloud Options:
For more control, the UniFi OS Server allows users to self-host the full UniFi software stack on their own hardware, while cloud-managed options are also available for users who prefer that model.
UISP
UISP is a free, self-hosted network management platform designed by Ubiquiti to monitor and manage its non-UniFi network infrastructure, such as EdgeRouter and airMAX devices. It provides centralized control for configuration, device management, firmware updates, and network monitoring, and it can be integrated with UCRM for client billing and business management for Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
Key Features:
Centralized Management:
Monitor and manage Ubiquiti's Edge and airMAX product lines from a single interface.
Remote Device Discovery:
Automatically scans subnets for Ubiquiti devices.
Device Configuration:
Allows for the configuration of routes, firewalls, and other advanced routing functions.
Firmware Management:
Provides a manager for updating firmware on multiple devices simultaneously.
Network Monitoring:
Offers customizable notifications and alerts, as well as network topology maps.
Business Integration:
Can integrate with the UCRM (now part of UISP) for billing, client management, and service provisioning, making it ideal for ISPs.
UISP vs. UniFi:
